Wythenshawe CC U11s Wolves came so close to their 1st win of this season this morning, just falling short by 5 runs, chasing Timperley’s 93/5 off 20 overs.
So much improvement evident across the whole team, playing a tight field and displaying much more positivity in attack.
Some inspired bowling from young spinner Daniel Swinden taking 2 wickets, other wickets coming from Ben Frese, Sam Lavelle & Dylan Drummond, Timperley Thunder finishing on 93/5 which included a 25 retired not out from A. Nedungadi & 22 not out from Lucas Court.
Wythenshawe needing 94 to win, openers Capt Sonny Ash & Daniel Swinden started confidently until Timperley struck early taking Sonny’s wicket for 6 runs, just after he’d hit an impressive 4.
Daniel Swinden playing well with the bat as well as the ball today, pulling off some great, classic shots in his total of 15 runs.
Wythenshawe keeping their cool, edged ever closer to the required target, a good knock from James Gutteridge scoring 11 runs, a confident innings from Ollie Kirk (10 runs) & great running between the wickets from all the boys kept the gathered crowd of parents from both teams on the edge of their seats, cheering every run as we nudged closer & closer, an uncomfortable fall by Ben Frese as he threw himself across the crease, meant he had to retire hurt in the very last over. Up stepped impromptu 12th man Albert Caldwell partnering with his twin brother Fred, both boys giving their all attempting to hit the last few runs which would have seen us just past the post, sadly not to be as we fell short by just 5 runs!!
What a fantastic advert for junior cricket, both teams evenly matched & playing some great cricket for their age group.
Well done to Timperley & hard luck to our boys, it was great to see how much everyone loves their cricket & a desire to win.
Thanks to Jnr coach Rob Jones for officiating again & to Jane & Kelly for scoring, thank you to all from both teams & supporters, who observed the minutes silence in memory of the Mcr 22 before the game.
